MarkIT is a remote coaching platform for throws athletes (shot put, discus, hammer, javelin). This policy explains what we collect, where it lives, who can see it, and how to get it deleted. We keep it short because you should be able to read it.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email, role (athlete or coach), and the password you set (stored hashed, never in plain text).
- Date of birth: collected at signup so we can apply the right protections for athletes under 18 (see “Athletes under 18” below).
- Location: approximate, city-level location only (like “Sacramento, CA”) — optionally filled in from your device — used to connect you with nearby coaches or athletes and to show the throwing weather where you train. Sharing it is optional: you can always type your city in by hand or leave it blank. We never store precise GPS coordinates.
- Training data: the marks, distances, implement weights, sessions, injuries, and meet results you log.
- Video and photos: throw videos you upload or record for coaching review, and any profile photo you set.
- Uploaded program files: if you use the AI Program Uploader, the training-program file you upload (PDF, spreadsheet, or photo) so we can read it and draft a program for you to review.
- Messages: messages between you and your coach (or athletes).
- Device identifiers: if you turn on notifications in the mobile app, a push token and basic device info so we can deliver them.
- Usage analytics: our own event log of which features get used (for example “completed an onboarding step” or “first program published”). These events carry feature names and step names only — never the content of your programs, marks, videos, or messages, except a file you choose to upload to the AI Program Uploader, which is processed as described below. We also collect crash and error reports through Sentry so we can fix bugs.
- Purchase history: records of subscriptions and payments, processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
Where your data lives
Account and training data are stored in our database (Supabase). Video is stored and streamed through Mux, a specialized video provider: we don’t keep raw video files on our own servers. Payments are handled by Stripe. The website and app backend are hosted on Vercel. Mobile push notifications are delivered through Expo’s push service. Crash reports go to Sentry. To show local training weather, your city is sent to a third-party weather provider (Open-Meteo) to look up conditions; only the city goes out, never your precise location. If you use the AI Program Uploader, your file’s contents are sent to Anthropic, an AI provider in the United States — see “AI Program Scanning” below for exactly what happens. Each of these providers processes data only to run their part of the service. Your data is processed and stored by service providers in the United States and Canada, and by using MarkIT you consent to your information being transferred to those countries.
AI Program Scanning
MarkIT has an optional feature, the AI Program Uploader, that reads a training program you already have — a PDF, a spreadsheet, or a photo of a written sheet — and turns it into a MarkIT program you can edit. Here’s exactly what happens to that file.
You choose to use it. Nothing is scanned unless you upload a file and tap through a consent screen that explains this first. You can use every other part of MarkIT without ever touching it.
Where the file goes. When you upload, the file is stored privately in our own storage (Supabase) and its contents are sent to Anthropic PBC, an AI company in the United States, which reads it and returns structured training data — days, exercises, sets, reps, weights. Anthropic acts as our service provider for this: they process your file to answer our request and for nothing else. Our prompt asks the model to pull out the structureof the program. It does not ask for names, and we don’t use it to identify anyone.
No training on your data. Under our commercial agreement with Anthropic, content we send through their API is not used to train their models. That is their standing commitment to business customers, not something we negotiated per-file, and we will tell you on this page if it ever changes.
How long it’s kept — honestly. We delete the file you uploaded from our own storage after we’ve processed it. We keep the draft programit produced, because that’s the thing you asked for and it’s now yours. On Anthropic’s side: their standard commercial terms allow them to retain API content on their systems, including for a period for trust-and-safety review, and we do not currently have a zero-retention or shortened-retention arrangement with them. We’re telling you that plainly rather than implying the file disappears everywhere the moment we’re done with it. If you don’t want a document leaving our systems, don’t upload it — type your program in instead. It’s the same product either way.
The draft is a draft. The AI can misread a sheet. What comes back is a starting point you review and correct before you train off it. It is not coaching advice and it is not medical advice.
Only upload what’s yours to upload. If you’ve been handed a program written for a whole group, it may have other athletes’ names or numbers on it. Please only upload programs written for you.
Athletes under 13. MarkIT does not accept members under 13 at all. On top of that, the AI Program Uploader is closed to any account under 13 or with no date of birth on file, and that block is enforced on our servers, not just in the app. See our COPPA statement.
Everyone gets the same product. Whether you use the AI Program Uploader or not does not change your price, your plan, your limits, or the coaching you get. Declining it costs you nothing.
Leaving Canada.Sending your file to Anthropic means it is processed in the United States, where it can be accessed by U.S. courts and law-enforcement agencies under U.S. law. By using the AI Program Uploader you consent to that transfer. If you’re in Canada and would rather not, don’t use the feature — everything else in MarkIT stays within our providers in the United States and Canada, as described above.
Who can see your data
Your training data and video are private to you and the coach you’re working with. That’s enforced two ways: by policy, and by row-level security rules in our database that scope every read to your own account or your connected coach. When an athlete is matched with a coach, that coach can see the athlete’s logged marks, videos, and session history so they can actually coach. Coaches cannot see athletes they aren’t connected to. We never sell your data, never share it with advertisers, and never use your video for ads. There are narrow exceptions for athlete-safety investigations and legal demands — see “When we may share messages for safety” below.
When we may share messages for safety
Messages between a coach and an athlete are private between those two people. There are a small number of situations where we may read a conversation or share it with someone else, and we want you to know about them before you start typing.
We may review and disclose messages, video, and related account records when:
- Someone reports it. If a message is reported through the app, our team reviews that conversation to decide what to do.
- A guardian asks. A parent or guardian of an athlete under 18 can request a copy of their athlete’s message history with a coach. We verify who they are before we hand anything over.
- We’re investigating athlete safety. If we have a genuine concern that an athlete — especially a minor — is being harmed, groomed, harassed, or endangered, we may review the relevant messages and share them with the athlete’s parent or guardian, the athlete’s school, club, or program officials, a safe-sport body (such as the U.S. Center for SafeSport or a Canadian equivalent), or law enforcement.
- The law requires it. A court order, subpoena, or other valid legal demand.
- We need to protect the platform. Investigating fraud, payment abuse, or attacks on the service.
We share the narrowest thing that answers the problem, not a whole account history, and we keep a record of what we shared and why. We don’t monitor conversations, and nothing here is a promise to review or act on any particular message — we act on what we’re told about and what we find when we look.
If the athlete is under 18:by accepting these terms on behalf of an athlete under 18, the athlete’s parent or guardian consents to us disclosing that athlete’s messages and related records for the safety purposes above, and to reviewing them at the guardian’s request. A guardian can ask for that history at any time by emailing support@markitthrows.com.
Athletes under 18
Athletes on MarkIT may be minors. A minor’s video is visible only to their connected coach, like everyone else’s. Before an athlete under 18 can record or upload any video, we ask a parent or guardian to acknowledge a short consent screen explaining what’s recorded, that it’s stored with Mux, and that their coach can see it. Until that acknowledgment is given, video capture stays off — marks and the rest of the app still work. A parent or guardian can request deletion of a minor’s account and data at any time by emailing support@markitthrows.com. A parent or guardian can also request a copy of their athlete’s messages with a coach, and may be contacted by us if we have a safety concern about that athlete.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it
Your data — including video — stays available for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data from Settings → Accountat any time; deletion happens promptly — within 30 days — except for records we’re required to retain (for example, financial records tied to payments). If you have a payment in progress (a coach awaiting a payout, or an active paid plan) we’ll ask you to settle that first. To keep required financial records we retain transaction amounts in anonymized form, with your personal details removed. You can also request a copy of your data from the same place, or email support@markitthrows.com; we send exports within 30 days.
Your rights
You can access, correct, delete, or export your personal data at any time — most of this is self-serve from Settings → Account, or you can email support@markitthrows.com and we’ll handle it. We do not sell or share your personal information. The list of service providers above may change over time; if it does, we’ll reflect the change on this page.
